10 Healthy & Easy Smoothie Recipes For Beginners

10 Healthy & Easy Smoothie Recipes For Beginners

Why is it such a knee-jerk reaction to choose unhealthy foods over those that are actually good for us? Why aren’t we ecstatic about eating things that will make us feel better, look better and ultimately extend our lifespan? I’ll tell you why – it’s because their ingredients have taken over our brains.

sugar

Researchers wanted to test just how addictive sugar was. So they set up an experiment which involved rats and sugar water. And what they found is that sugar is very similar to being hooked on cocaine, with it’s affects having all of the classic symptoms-bingeing, withdrawal and craving.

Researchers kept rats from eating for twelve hours and then gave them unlimited access to sugar water and food for a short period. The researchers then took away the food and sugar again. They repeated this cycle for several weeks. The rats formed cycles of bingeing when they were given the sugar, and, over the course of time, they increased their intake to double the amount from when the experiment started.

When researchers stopped giving the sugar to the rats and gave them a substance which prevented their brains from experiencing pleasure, the rats quickly started to show signs of withdrawal. They exhibited body tremors and teeth-chattering.

This is why, if you were to ask the average person what they wanted to eat on their “cheat day”, a day in which they don’t have to watch their weight or think about their health, many would instantly list off snacks and junk food that are so loaded with processed sugar it would rot even the biggest sweet tooth. Even though these are foods that we know we should avoid, unhealthy foods are usually the first thing to come to mind when asked what we “really” want to eat.

So what’s the answer?

How do we overcome our addiction and form a more healthy relationship with healthy foods?

Simple. Snack better.

Start Snacking Better By Drinking Healthy Weight Loss Smoothies

Healthy eating can be somewhat challenging, but it is particularly so when we are completely surrounded by foods that are disguised as being “good for us.” We know that some fats are very necessary, that whole grains are excellent and that getting the proper amounts of veggies and fruits is crucial. However, yet and still the grocery store can often feel like a nutritional maze.

The problem is that we are often led by the advertisements on the front of packages, and this becomes a selling point. And because of this, Constance Brown-Riggs, a dietitian and spokesperson for the National Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests that we start to examine the fiber, sugar and fat content of our snacks. Though even packages can be deceiving at times. This is why in most cases, its best to turn to foods that contain their own natural sugars. This means that in between meals you should do your best to only snack on fruits.

checking snack content

While fruits can become a little boring over time if eaten alone, there are ways that you can add a little variation to your snacking routines. There are a huge amount of alternatives to choose from if you’re searching for a sweet treat. And in some cases, these alternatives will only come through our own efforts.

A recent documentary entitled, Powered by Green Smoothies, featured five different runners and five different Cross Fitters who were put on smoothie drinking regimens. And it was found that for individuals who may not be consuming enough vegetables and fruits, smoothies may be helpful in upping their intake.

Sure, people have been making smoothies for years, but it seems that we are just recognizing them for how beneficial they are to our health. And the added bonus is, with just the right mixture of ingredients you can create a sweet treat that will put an end to your snacking and a start to your extreme weight loss.
